Amida-do Hall was built by Fujiwara Yorimichi in 1053. The architecture, sculptures, and halls of the Heian period are masterpieces of the finest craftsmanship and are national treasures. It was built on the middle island of a garden pond, facing east, and is said to be modeled after the Western Pure Land. It has been called ``Houou-do'' since the early Edo period because of the pair of gilt bronze phoenixes on the roof, and according to one theory, it looks like a phoenix spreading its wings. The main statue of Amida Nyorai enshrined in the hall is the work of Jocho, one of the leading Buddhist sculptors of the Heian period. Although many of the temple's halls and pagodas were destroyed by repeated disasters, the Phoenix Hall was miraculously spared. In 1994, it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as one of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto. It was completed in 2014 after Heisei repairs. [About the kit] This kit is a 1/120 scale addition to the conventional type (1/75) of Byodoin Phoenix Hall. Although it is compact, it is highly precise and recreates the national treasure Phoenix Hall while retaining the high-quality feel of the wooden model. The central hall, transept, and tower are mainly made of laser-cut parts made of solid cypress wood, as well as elaborate metal parts such as phoenixes, dragon heads, and jewels.
